Winfred 'Smitty' Smith, age 74, died, August 25, 2009 in Harrah, OK. Smitty was the sixth of eight children born to Stella May (Stewart) and Joe Monroe Smith on January 14, 1935 in Ada, OK. After graduating from Holdenville High School in 1954, he married Sammye Delene White on March 2, 1957. After a stint in the Army Reserves he worked for Haliburton Oil Company in Farmington, NM, the City of Midwest City, B and H Supply Co., and Gipson Trim Supply in OKC. In 1976, Smitty moved his family to Harrah, where he and his wife worked with his brother Asa Smith in the funeral business. Smitty worked at Harrah Lumber and also worked as a custodian for the Harrah Public Schools retiring from Clara Reynolds Elementary. He was of the Baptist Faith. His hobbies included dancing, listening to live music and collecting coal oil lamps. Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 1 sister and his wife Sammye, of 50 years. Survivors include his daughter, Starla Smith of Harrah, 1 sister, Sara Majors of Holdenville, many other relatives and friends. The family extends deepest gratitude to all of the employees at Harrah Nursing Center and Good Shepherd Hospice. Our confidence in your care of Smitty has been a great comfort. Memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association or to Good Shepherd Hospice. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August. 28, 2009, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, OK, with Rev. Doug Parker officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00PM at the Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
