William Lewis Martin

William “Bill” Lewis Martin, of Weleetka, Oklahoma, passed away on January 24, 2025 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 89. Bill was born in Burns Flatt, Oklahoma on August 21, 1935. He was the son of Roscoe Samuel and Millie Mayfield (Hedge) Martin and was the brother of Harold and Lucille.

Bill attended school in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. He loved and played baseball and basketball. He played for Burns Flatt when they won state in the early 50’s. They won most of the games they played. Bill was a Championship Catcher second to none!

After graduating from High School, Bill met the love of his life when circling the County Courthouse in Cordell as it was the normal thing to do back then! Bill married Betty Jean (Smith) Martin September 8, 1956. Her parent's names were Homer P. Smith and mother's name was Nettie (Moore) Smith.

Bill and Betty were blessed with three children: Mickey Lee Martin, Alan Dale Martin, and Cheryl Ranea (Martin) Foster; four grandchildren: Nikki Leigh Martin; Mallory (Martin) Carney and husband Russell. Savannah May Foster, Dakota William Foster, their adopted granddaughter, Megan Warner; six great-grandchildren, Briley Thain, Raven Thain, Braden Carney, Ezra Mason, Lily Boggs and Violet Boggs; his special ex-daughter-in-law, Karla Forrest, ex-son-in-law, Richard Foster and his wife, Shelby and a host of family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his Father Roscoe, Mother Millie; Father and Mother in-law Homer and Nettie Smith; His brother Harold Lee, Sister Lucille Deal and Her Husband Bobby Deal; and Bill and Betty's two Sons: Mickey and Dale Martin.

He worked his younger years for Meadow Gold Dairy as a milk man and then became a district manager for the Daily Oklahoman where he retired after 35 years. 

His family was everything to him and he will be missed.
