William 'Bill' J. Lanie of Luther, OK, was born on September 9, 1933, in Anthony, KS to Leo S. and Marie (Hicks) Lanie and passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014. His family farmed in Manchester, OK and later moved to Blackwell, OK where Bill attended school and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1952. He attended Northern Oklahoma Jr. College. He married Mary Ellen Parsons in Blackwell, OK, February 7, 1953. They celebrated their 60th anniversary last year. Bill served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and retired in 1977 as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1972 while in the military he graduated from Command General Staff College. Outside the military he spent most of his career working in Automotive Bearing Manufacturing. He worked for over 20 years for L&S Bearing in Okla. City and traveled throughout the US and to Russia, Romania, Yugoslavia and Indonesia where he and his wife lived for three years building a new Bearing Factory. He retired in 1996 from Unit Parts then served for 2 years as a Manufacturing Consultant for the United Nations Development Program in China. His retirement years were spent traveling and taking care of his registered Limousin cattle. He kept very busy and always had some project going. Bill was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Harrah serving on the Parish Council for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1038. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Diane Marie and husband Jeff Mackay of Piedmont; Julie Ann and husband David Chapman of Edmond, four grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Philip Boyd and Emily Mackay; Jennifer and Ryan Chapman. A sister, Colleen Schiltz and husband Don of Ponca City, OK, a brother, Steve and wife Sharon of Blackwell, OK as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank long time friend and helper, Raymond Wallace, good friends and neighbors, Everett & Alicia Martin and Dr. Gregory Parker, Laurie and Angela of Cancer Specialists for their excellent and compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Monday, January 13, 2014 at Smith-Parks Funeral Service, 2039 N. Tim Holt Drive, Harrah, OK. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, at 1576 Tim Holt Drive, Harrah, OK, with Father Prakash Madineni officiating. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Catholic Cemetery, Harrah, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
