Wilfrid Marak

James Wilfrid Marak was born on May 17, 1919, in Meeker, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Thursday, August 30, 2007, in Meeker, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. Wilfrid, the son of Joseph Theodore and Mary Petricek Marak, was a life-long resident of Meeker. He graduated from Meeker High School with the class of 1938. He entered the United States Army in 1942 during World War II. He served in the 71st Infantry Division attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant until he received a battlefield commission to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. His total service was four years and two months. His service decorations included the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with two bronze stars. Wilfrid married Louise C. Schiltz on November 10, 1948 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She preceded Wilfrid in death on January 2, 2002. He worked at Jonco Aircraft prior to becoming a full-time dairy farmer. Wilfrid was a member of the American Legion, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, and St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Meeker. His parents; one brother, Edmund Marak; and one sister, Mary Jo Mathews, also preceded Wilfrid in death. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Robbie Marak of Meeker, Jim R. Marak of Meeker; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Dale Broudrick of Meeker, Catherine and Dana Roberts of Prague, Margaret Seymour of Meeker and Pat Scully of Choctaw, Carolyn and Darrell Sims of Meeker, Joan and Tommy Walters of Prague, Mary Karen and Donnie Wallis of Shawnee; brothers, Joseph P. Marak of Norman, Louis D. Marak of Kansas City, MO; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker beginning at 12:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2007. A wake service will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2007, at 6:30 PM, at St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Meeker. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 10:30 AM, at St. Michael''s Catholic Church in Meeker with Rev. Shane Tharp officiating. Interment will follow at Sunny Side Cemetery in Meeker. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
