June McMahan passed from this life February 8, 2025 at the age of 96. She was born in their farm house near Jacktown on October. 10,1928 in McLoud, OK to Fred and Fannie Frost (Floyd).
June attended Buck Grade School and graduated from White Rock High School in 1946. After graduation she lived and worked in Oklahoma City. Later in life, after raising her family, she attended Gordon Cooper Vo Tech and then received her Real Estate and Brokers licenses.
She married Harvey Bowen on December 27, 1946. They lived in Meeker where they raised their four children. In 1956, June took the position of postal clerk at the Meeker Post Office. She held that position until her retirement of 28 years in 1984.
June married Roy McMahan on October 8, 1986. As the family grew with step children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, so did June’s heart overflow with love for her combined family. During those 26 years of marriage, they traveled and visited their children in Belgium, Paris, England, Australia, and Hawaii.
After Roy’s death in 2012, June relocated from their farm to Primrose Retirement Community (5 years) and Shawnee Memory Care Center (6 ½ years), both in Shawnee, OK. In November of 2018, Shawnee Memory Care recognized June as Resident of the Month and had this to say:
“Born and raised on a farm near Jacktown, June is a lady of faith and family. Her hometown is near and dear to her heart, and although she traveled to several large cities across the country, she was always glad to arrive back home, ‘the most beautiful site.’ She was content to live her life in the heartland where she raised her four children and enjoyed her long career at the Meeker Post Office. Her large meals, which included homemade rolls, and her pies, which were delivered to many, delighted both friend and family. Although June enjoyed spending time at the lake and camping, her priority in life centered around her faith. She played the piano and sang at church, but her faith spread outside the walls of Meeker First United Methodist. At Shawnee Memory Care, June frequently shared her faith through hymns she played on the piano. In her autobiography, June reiterates her philosophy of living a contented life. “… count your blessings, enjoy each moment, and love without condition, and forgive people as Jesus does.’
June is preceded in passing by her loving husband, Roy McMahan, parents, Fred and Fannie Frost, ex-husband, Harvey Bowen, sister, Wilma Armitage, daughter Nancy McMahan and granddaughter, Clara Bowen Cunningham.
Survivors include her children Dan Bowen and wife Marla of Meeker, Jane Fletcher and husband Kenny of Checotah, Kelly Bowen and wife Cheryl of Shawnee, grandchildren: Kerri Montgomery and husband Erik; John Bowen and wife Courtney, Julie Bowen, Russell Walden, Tyler Walden and wife Cassie, Lauren Bryan and husband Mark, Aaron Palmer, Emily Gideon and husband Bobbie, Kelsey Bowen and Tanner Bowen plus twelve beautiful great grandchildren
If you wish to donate in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made in June's memory to the Meeker First United Methodist Church's Children's Ministry.
