Wanda Allene Massey Martin All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my Angel Mother... Wanda Life Story Wanda Allene Martin was born on January 7, 1937 in Shawnee, OK. Her parents were Albert and Dorothy (Bias) Massey. She was educated in Shawnee and Chandler, where she studied art and vocal music. She was a basketball and softball player. She would have graduated in 1955 from Chandler but she met Leon Martin and they married August 29, 1953. The Chandler Lion Class of 1955, always invited her to their class reunions. Their children are Shelia Allene and Gary Leon. They traveled thru out their married life, for work and horse racing. They have lived in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Illinois. They had several horses that were winners in Oklahoma, St. Louis and New Mexico tracks. Wanda and Leon became active bowlers at Stroud in the early 1960's. Wanda continued with a ladies team and she bowled in the National Tournament in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wanda got her GED from Davenport High School and enjoyed being a member of the Davenport Alumni Association. Wanda graduated from Cosmetology school, taking her State board test she scored 1 of the highest in the state that year. She had a salon next to their home in Davenport. Then purchased a dress shop in Chandler and added a hair salon. She named it the MarMel Dress Shoppe. They kept a home in Davenport until purchasing a home and a farm North East of Davenport. They purchased a horse farm in East St. Louis, Missouri. The built horse stables and a practice track on the premises. When Leon became ill they moved into Chandler. After his death in 1988, Wanda worked in the Chandler Floral Shoppe for several years, until purchasing the Cupid's Corner in Moore. She lived in Moore until her mom became ill. Wanda's father passed away 8 months after Leon's death, she wanted to be near her mom, so she moved across the street from her in Stroud. She continued to reside there for the last 21 years. She worked at McDonald's on the Turnpike until she went into Home Health Service. She returned to studying and worked for Gentiva Health Care. She was named Employee of the Year. She loved working and helping other people. She was currently working for Home Health Innovations. She would have been 82 years old in January. She will be laid to rest in the Davenport Cemetery next to her husband. From: Sheila & Mike, Gary and all of her family. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, niece and nephew Amica Lavern Manning Shell, Donald Manning. Survivors: Children Sheila and husband Mike Melson and Gary Martin. Sisters: Lillian Lucille Manning, Almadene Herd, Sharon McClendon, and brother James Massey Grandchildren: Chris Melson-Alsip (born on Wanda's birthday) (Brad) R. Michael Melson (Afton), DeAnna Melson-DeLoach (Adam). Austin Martin (Lauren) Great Grandchildren: Alexandria, Cason and Brynlee Alsip (Born on Wanda's Birthday), Asher Button DeLoach, Barrett Lincoln Melson and Thomas Martin Nieces Alterra Morton Woodward, Denise Morton Carder, Danette White Carroll, Janette Cornet, Paula Martin Patrick, Denise Martin Penrod, Shelia Berglan Wilkey, Heather Berglan Zwkoscky, Connie Tonubbee Thompson, Sherrill Robinson Clark, Terry Terrell'Estep'. Brother-in-law: Darrell Martin (Pauline), Harlin Martin Sister-in-law: Glenda Martin Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers Grandsons: R.Michael Melson II, Austin Martin, Grandson-in-law Brad Alsip. Nephews:John Morton, Daron White, Rick Tonubbee, Randy Tonubbee, Benny Melson, Olen Robinson, Joshua Martin, Michael Martin, Robbie Carroll, Devin Terrell Special Neighbors Nathan and Mary Terry A special Thank you to Reverend Mike Mitchel, her highly regarded pastor for 45 years, the ladies of the First Baptist Church for the lunch.
