Walter J. Reier

Walter Reier, age 82, of Harrah, OK, was born on August 9, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010, at the McLoud Nursing Home after a long battle with emphysema. Walt worked for the Omaha World Herald newspaper. He and Betty married on November 12, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. The family moved to Edmond, OK in August of 1965 and he worked for the Daily Oklahoman newspaper for ten years. He then moved to Harrah, OK and went to work for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department retiring after 22 years. He also worked part time at Dealers Auto Auction in security. His favorite things to do were camping, fishing, hunting and riding horses. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Francis Reier, two sisters, Zelda Reier, Mildred Algya, and one son, Dennis. Survivors include his wife, Betty Reier, Harrah, OK; son & daughter-in-law, Rick & Teresa Reier, Harrah, OK; daughter & companion,Cynthia Stull & Brett Streller, Earlsboro, OK; sister, Marge Madsen, Overland Park, KS; brother & sister-in-law, Ken & Gwen Reier, Gretna, NE; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The family sincerely thanks Hospice Quality Care, including the chaplin, Diane, Linda, and Kathy, for all of their love and compassion. He loved you dearly. The Reier family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 27, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah. Services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, OK, with Rev. Tony Alvarez officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
