W. Ellen Eberhardt

March 24, 1919 — September 18, 2011

W. Ellen Eberhardt was born on March 24, 1919, in Franklin County, Arkansas, and departed this life on Sunday, September 18, 2011, in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 92. Ellen, the daughter of Elmer Monroe and Nellie Ann (Dixon) Grissom, was a resident of Enid. She married Tom Payne Eberhardt on February 5, 1938. He preceded her in death November 15, 1963. Ellen retired from Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma where she worked many years as a nurse. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church USA in Bristow and the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. In 1965, Ellen was named the first female elder in the Presbyterian Church USA in the state of Oklahoma. Ellen was very generous in her life of service. She served as a trainer for Girl Scout leaders for 15 years, served with C.H.A.R.M.E.D. for 14 years and was vice-chair one year, served 16 years on the Committee for Aging for seven counties in central Oklahoma, served 2 successive terms with the Silver Hair Legislature Districts 5 and 2, and volunteered her time to numerous other organizations. Her parents; sisters, Wilda Simcox, Rosa Barnard, and Wanda Nelson; brothers, Dick Grissom and Fred Grissom; and sister-in-law, Pauline Grissom, also preceded Ellen in death. Survivors include on and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Yolanda Eberhardt of Prague; daughter and son-in-law, Nellie and Gilman Davis of Enid; brother, Arvel Jane Grissom of Scranton, AR; sister and brother-in-law, OraLea and Carl F. Blattler of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Dorothy Grissom of Prague; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be made in Ellen's name to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 3415 S. Western, Oklahoma City, OK 73109, or the charity of your choice. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 9:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, in Prague.
