Virginia Lucy Garrett

Virginia L. ?Lucy? Garrett, of Shawnee, OK, was born on September 12, 1928, in Wister, Oklahoma and departed this life on Friday, June 17, 2005, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 76. Lucy was the daughter of Claud & Martha Ellen Cobb Baldwin. She grew up in the McLoud area and attended school there. She retired from Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent after 29 years of service as a layout operator. Lucy cherished her husband, Lee, the love of her life. She provided a warm and loving home for him for many years. Even though she had no children, she dearly loved Janis McAllister as her own. Tiger, her faithful companion and pet gave her pleasure beyond description. Lucy?s hobbies included crafting, knitting, crocheting, painting, playing card games and dominoes. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetable. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband, family and friends. She was an avid Elvis fan and it was a requirement that Janis provide her with an Elvis calendar each year. She especially enjoyed special times called ?Sisters? Days? that began in 1990. The sisters and friends from AT&T and occasionally a brother, met for a morning of crafting and visiting, followed by a delicious meal. Sometimes they did nothing but play cards. In December, 2003, Lucy and Lee moved from Shawnee to the McLoud Nursing Center where they resided until June, 2005, when they moved to the Grace Living Center in Oklahoma City. Lucy will be best remembered for her friendly personality, her willingness to help others and her bright smile. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her husband, Charles Lee Garrett, Shawnee, OK; daughter & son-in-law, Janis & Bill McAllister, Oklahoma City, OK; 1 brother & sister-in-law, Albert & Jacqueta Baldwin, McLoud, OK; 5 sisters & 2 brothers-in-law, Christine Koster, McLoud, OK, Joyce Roberts, Oklahoma City, OK, Martha Ellis, Woodward, OK, Evelyn & Marc Clements, Okla. City, OK, Claudie & Billy Woods, McLoud, OK; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Dale Cemetery, Dale, OK, with Brother Larry Harris officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service, Harrah, OK.
