Violet Esta "Esty" Nicely

Violet Esta 'Esty' Nicely was born on January 23, 1914, in Payson, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Friday, May 23, 2014, in Meeker, Oklahoma, at the age of 100. Esty, the daughter of Luke and Savanna (Smith) Helms, was a resident of Meeker. Esty married John Nicely on October 11, 1930, in Chandler. Esty spent several years working in the cafeteria at Payson and then Meeker Public Schools. She was a long time member at Morning Star Baptist Church. Esty loved to garden and cook. She also kept up with what was happening in the world as she had to have her daily read of the Daily Oklahoman and the Shawnee News Star. Her parents, husband and a son, Carl, preceded Esty in death. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, David and Pam Nicely of Meeker and Johnny and Marilyn Nicely of Meeker; daughters and sons-in-law, Imogene Watkins of Anchorage, Alaska, Betty and Dale Cote of Helena, Montana, and Carol Nellor of Gresham, Oregon; one brother, Carl Helms of Orosi, California; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; other family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Loving Care Hospice and in particular Amber Freeze for the compassion and care that they provided. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Meeker with Pastor Joe Jones officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
