Vella King Bolz

November 9, 1927 — May 15, 2014

Vella King Bolz was born in Chandler, Oklahoma on November 9, 1927 to Charles and Luvina Gough King, the youngest of 6 children. She and her sister, Fern King Jones, had 4 brothers, Herman, George, Melvin and Jess (Clifford ). She went to meet her Savior on May 15, 2014. Vella attended school in Chandler. She married Carl Bolz of Wellston in 1944 just before he reported for active duty in the Army. During WWII, Vella’s family operated the Chandler Hotel and Vella served as the operator for the Western Union Telegraph while her husband Carl and brothers served in the war. Part of her responsibility was notifying families of those killed in action. Loretta, her niece remembers she did this with compassion and made sure she took a minister or someone close to the family with her. After the war, Vella and Carl had 2 children, Carlene and Vernon. In 1959, they moved to a farm north of Chandler to raise their family. Vella worked as an ab-stracter in Lincoln County for over 20 years. She was elected Lincoln County Assessor and served one term before joining the staff of Clifton Scott, State Audi-tor, at the state capitol. She retired 14 years later. Vella loved her four grandchildren, Andy, Jana, Ernie and Stacy. She spent lots of time with them and taught them how to build stilts, tree houses, and go carts. She took them fishing and bought them a Kawasaki dirt bike to ride, which she too enjoyed riding. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church. At age 10 she was present in the 1937 picture of the old Assembly of God Church down the street from Manvel Avenue. Later, through her vision and abstracting experience she found and helped secure the land for the present church on Highway 66. Her passion was telling others that “Jesus Christ is Lord” and she always invited them to church. She had a special place in her heart for children. She helped send them to church camp, helped organize bible school, published the church newsletter, and drove the church bus to bring children from all over Chandler to Sunday School. One of the highlights of her life was traveling to Israel with the church family led by her pastor Doyle Seeley. She told exciting tales of riding a camel on her trip but her favorite part was “walking where Jesus walked”. Vella was active in the community. She was a member of the Chamber of Com-merce serving as a Chamber Ambassador, a member and officer of the Business and Professional Women and served several terms as president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Vella actively supported Oklahoma Girls State and the 4H Pro-gram of Lincoln County OSU Extension Service. Those who have entered into rest before Vella are her parents Charles and Luvina, husband Carl, 2 grandsons Eric and Ernie Bolz, sister Fern King Jones, 4 brothers Herman, George, Melvin and Jess. Remaining family who will dearly miss her include daughter Carlene Jordan and husband James of Wilburton, son Vernon and wife Janice of Chandler; grandson Andy Jordan and wife Jennifer, granddaughters Jana Jordan-Clayborn and husband Mike, Stacy Pine and husband James, Angela Bolz wife of Ernie; her great grandchildren—Wyatt Jordan, Brannon Jordan, Jordan Clayborn, Ryder Clayborn, Conner Pine, Easton Pine, Bergen Bolz, and Brooke Bolz; her very special niece Loretta Smith and her brother-in-law Raymond Bolz. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family and Chandler Nursing Home Staff that lovingly cared for her for almost 10 years. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Parks Brothers Chapel in Chandler, with Pastor Doyle Seeley officiating. Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service. She was buried at Oak Park Cemetery but now resides in her heavenly home.
