Valerie Marie Stone

Valerie Stone was born Valerie Marie States on July 29, 1954 to William States and her mother. She was first-generation Italian in America and second-generation German and Irish ethnicity. She was the daughter of a proud, hardworking steel mill worker. Valerie watched MASH as a teenager which fueled her idea of being in the Army. This was at a time when women were not as welcome in the service. She rose through the ranks to be an air traffic controller which is where she met Daniel Stone. They parted ways after a brief marriage but were forever linked in their love and devotion for their daughter and only child, Jennifer. Valerie graduated from ECU with her RN and began her career as a nurse. She dedicated her life to her daughter. For the last 30 years of her life, she lived next to Stanley and Dianne Wojtunik of Pittsburg, PA. They were tremendous friends to her throughout the years as well as many other friends she worked with. Valerie loved being a grandmother to her three grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Adkisson of Prague and her son-in-law, Brian Adkisson; her granddaughter, Haley Adkisson, and her grandsons Jacob Adkisson and Bobby Adkisson; and her 2 dogs, Max and Ozzie, whom she loved very much.
