Tommie Smith was born on August 28, 1930, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at his residence in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 78. Tommie, the son of Charlie and Lula Elizabeth (Alexander) Smith, was a life-long resident of Prague. He married Joyce Violet (Hruska) Smith on October 11, 1949 in Polk County, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2006. Tommie was the owner and operator of Smith’s Texaco for 40 years, a bus driver for the Prague Schools for the last 15 years, and a longtime member of the Prague Round-up Club. His parents and one brother, William Wayne Smith, also preceded Tommie in death. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gary Dean and Sue Smith of Prague; grandchildren, Kelly Butler and her husband, Jimmy of Prague, Beau Smith and his wife Amber of Prague; great-grandchildren, Ty and Heath Butler of Prague; companion and dear friend, Linda Folks; sister and brother-in-law,Shirley Joe and Ira Kauth of Oklahoma City. The Smith family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague on Sunday, July 12, 2009, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10:00 AM, at the Prague Cemetery with Bro. Tim Emmons officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
