Thurman Bowden Nelson, age 75, passed away on April 30, 2008, in Midwest City, OK. He was born September 3, 1932, in McLoud, Oklahoma to Bertha & Esley Nelson. On May 12, 1955 he married Bonnie Schaffer. They moved to Harrah, Oklahoma in 1970. Thurman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from truck driving after 44 years. During those years he worked for Nash Finch, Safeway, LeeWay, Sooner Freight and Dalworth. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie; sister, Arletta Abbott and 2 brothers-in-law, Walt Danyeur and Msgt. Howard Nelson. He is survived by his daughters, Marcy Ruff and husband, Tom of Harrah, Rhonda Tate and husband, Bob of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Mark Ruff and wife, Brandy, and Tracy Ruff all of Harrah, Seth and Rachel Tate of Charlotte; great-grandson, Garrett Ruff; sister, Jackie Danyeur, Oklahoma City; brothers-in-law, Leroy Abbott of Grove, OK, Donald Schaffer and Inez Boutwell of Midwest City, OK; sister-in-law, Barbara Nelson and Chet Owens of Harrah, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepard Hospice, 4350 Will Rogers Parkway, Suite 400, OKC, OK 73108. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service, Harrah, OK.
