Terry Lee Walker has been reunited in heaven with his parents Tom and Peggy Walker, grandparents Harry and Glenna Masten, aunt Patsy Short, and other loved ones. He began his journey through life on Sept 8, 1952, in Chandler, Oklahoma. Whether on the farm, in town, or nursing care, Chandler has always been home. Within his first year, it was determined Terry's life would be a more challenging adventure, as birth defects limited his mental ability and rendered him non-verbal. In spite of his limitations, Terry had a rewarding childhood following his sister Toni Riner around. Terry escaped during his teen years to Enid State School which he attended for 5 years until the age of 18. He then returned to Chandler where he took some responsibility by watching younger family members, John and Roberta (Short), Cheryl and Paul (Corley). Terry helped Peggy with many community projects but mostly created his own adventures as he walked about Chandler. Occasionally someone would call and tell us, 'we saw Terry off highway 66 near Warwick, or Davenport'. In 1993 Terry took a side trip on this journey of life, when he moved to Woodland Park Home in Tulsa Oklahoma. During his stay in Tulsa, Terry worked at Sertoma and found great satisfaction and pride in earning a paycheck. He also made a special bond with his lady friend, Stella Dollarhyde. Terry returned to Chandler in 2007, and although, he was unable to explore town as he did in his younger years, he blazed a trail around Chandler Nursing Center. He greeted everyone with a smile and a double handshake. He spread joy and friendliness to all he met. The caregivers at CNC became Terry's extended family and shared in his journey through life. Toni and Frank Riner, along with support from Vicki Masten, John Short, Roberta Davis, Cheryl Gillespie, and Paul Corley, helped get Terry through this last leg of his journey: his battle with leukemia. Terry left his family he loved and who loved him on May 19, 2018, and surely greeted family in heaven with a double handshake. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 25, 2018, at Parks Brothers Chapel in Chandler, with Rev. Kaycee Funk officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery.
