James Ted McBride, beloved husband, father, papaw, and friend, went home to Christ at 12:44 am October 7, 2014. He died at the age of 78 in his home surrounded by family. Ted was born May 30, 1936 in Athens, AL to “Daddy” James McBride and Ida Lou “Penny” McBride. He was the oldest of seven boys: Charles, Billy, Bobby, Donald Ray, Jack and Jimmy. In 1966, he met and soon married Marilyn Granger. He had seven children: Kendra and Kelli McBride (Prague, OK); Kim Root and husband Scott (Prague, OK); Sheri Elsasser (Birmingham, AL); Robert (deceased); Ricky and wife Anita (Springfield, MO); and Ronnie and wife Kathy (Springfield, MO. He was a grandfather to seven children: Brandon McBride (Florida), Heather Sinclair (Texas), Sara Beth Huddleston (Missouri), Amanda Coleman (Missouri), Austin McBride (Missouri), Riley McBride (Missouri), and Lauren Root (Oklahoma). He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his parents, his brothers Charles and Bobby, and his oldest son, Robert. A public viewing of the body is on Friday, October 10th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague, OK. A service is planned for Saturday, October 11, at 10:00 am at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague. Pastor Jim Whorton of Meeker 1st Christian Church, where Ted had his membership, will conduct the service. Ted’s wishes were to be cremated and interred with his wife in the family plot at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Edmond, OK. No graveside ceremony is planned. The family requests that donations in Ted’s name be made to the Seminole State College of Oklahoma Foundation (please specify to be used for scholarships). Information is at http://www.sscok.edu/Foundation. Ted grew up poor and left school his sophomore year to work. He had jobs as a baker, deputy sheriff, and steelmill worker. He came to Oklahoma to help build I-35 and stayed. He soon started his own paving company, McBride Paving, in Edmond, OK. In the 80’s, he turned his talent and love of gardening into a different business, and opened Beeline Lawn and Garden and Pet Store in Glenpool, OK. Eventually, he went back to construction and with his daughter, Kendra, started Central Plains Light and Barricade, which provided signage and safety barricades on road construction sites. They eventually sold this business and went solely into screenprinting and embroidery. Though retired, Ted still continued to work at his daughter’s business, Beacon Signs. Throughout his adult life, he was actively involved in politics. Never one to adhere to one party, he worked as Senator Jim Inhofe’s field representative in the 80’s, and was the Chair of the Democrat Party in Lincoln County in the 90’s. He was working the last day of his life. Though not a formally educated man, he was intelligent and wise, believing that education was a great privilege. His friends knew him as a person who loved to talk and share stories. His family knew him as a man who always provided, worked hard and sacrificed so they could have a better life. The Lord knew him as His faithful and true servant. Rest in Peace, Papaw. The McBride family will receive friends on Friday evening, October 10, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
