Sylva Alice Summers

Sylva Alice (Hixon) Summers, age 83, of Stroud, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 5, 2022. Sylva was born on August 26, 1938, to Evert Arnold Hixon and Lizzie Arlie (Anderson) Hixon near the community of Iron Post in Okfuskee County. Sylva attended Stroud Schools through her junior year and then moved to Kendrick where she went on to graduate from high school. After graduating, Sylva worked at Howard Johnson's in Stroud and then in the summer of 1958, she began dating Delmer Summers while he home on leave from the United States Navy. After going out on a total of 17 dates, Sylva married the love of her life on December 28,1958. Sylva and Delmer celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last December. Delmer and Sylva made their home after marriage in Artesia, California for a few years. During that time, they had two sons: Lonnie Summers and Gary Summers. In 1965, they made the decision to move back to Stroud where they made their home. They went on to have two more children: Kalah Summers and David Summers. Sylva began working for the Stroud Public School Systems where she would eventually retire in 2002. She also loved to sew and would work as a seamstress making uniforms, wedding dresses, and numerous garments of all kinds. Most of the clothing that her family wore was clothing that she made herself. Amongst the many items that she made by sewing were dolls. She loved making dolls and stuffed bears. Sylva also loved to quilt and would make some of the most beautiful quilts you have ever seen. Other hobbies that she loved to do in her spare time were gardening, canning, ceramics, needle point, crocheting, upholstering, and re-finishing furniture. She also had a great love for reading. Sylva loved to spend time with her husband and would often travel the states with him to watch him play softball. She was a member of the Stroud Christian Church. She loved her family, and she loved the Lord. Sylva was preceded in death by her father Evert Arnold Hixon and her mother, Lizzie Arlie (Anderson) Hixon. One brother: Charles Hixon, three sisters: Ruthie Bickell, Rubie Dixon, Goldie Prewitt, and one great-grand daughter: Tatum Horn. She is survived by her husband: Delmer Summers, three sons: Lonnie Summers, Gary Summers, David Summers, and daughter: Kalah Summers. Six grandchildren: Brandy Kelly, Gayla Horn, Sean Dotson, Dalton Dotson, Joshua Summers, and Leah Summers. Nine great-grandchildren: Jacob Kelly, Blake Kelly, MacKenzie Kelly, Avery Horn, Mia Dotson, Haisley Dotson, Violet Dotson, Miles Treat, and Tucker Treat. One great-great grandchild: Motley Smith. Sylva was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be at the Parks Brothers Funeral Service on Sunday, March 13th from 3-8pm. Services will be held at the Stroud Christian Church on Monday, March 14 at 10am officiated by Pastor Will Fine and Pastor Mike Mitchell followed by a graveside service at Stroud Cemetery.
