Sonja Dee Owens

September 9, 1962 — September 5, 2021

On Sunday, September 5th, 2021, Sonja Dee Brown Owens, went home to be with the lord at the age of 58. Sonja was born on September 9th, 1962, in Tulsa, to Theda and Ralph Brown. Sonja, along with her mom and two older brothers, moved to Stroud in 1964, after her mom married her dad, Carl Buchanan. Sonja attended Stroud Public Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1980. Sonja was a beloved mother and mimi, to two daughters and a grandson. She loved being involved with their activities and sports. She was an avid softball mom and cheer coach. Sonja also loved being with family and friends. She had a great smile, an even better laugh, and gave the best hugs. She never met a stranger and was referred to by many as a ray of sunshine. Sonja took pride in bringing joy to the lives of the residents of Stroud Health Care Center, where she worked for many years. She loved to bring a smile to their faces by chatting with them, telling them jokes, singing and dancing, or just sitting with them and holding their hands. Sonja was very kind hearted and was a great friend to many. She was the life of the party wherever she went and had a love for life that was unlike anyone else. God broke our hearts to prove that He only takes the best. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Theda Buchanan, and her oldest brother, Charles Brown. She is survived by her two daughters, Ashley Henderson and Kali Owens, and her one grandson, Jorden Owens. Sonja is also survived by her siblings, David Brown and his wife Brenda, Shirley Todd and her husband Skip, and Rocky Buchanan, as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she adored.
