Shirley Ann Quick "Lay"

April 23, 1955 — December 30, 2016

Shirley Ann (Quick) Lay, 61, departed this life after a long battle with cancer on December 30, 2016. She was born April 23, 1955 in Hoisington, Kansas to Tony and Mavis (Blagrave) Neary. She attended school at Putnam City West High School. She moved to California as a young woman. After meeting her husband Bill she started an online bookstore called Ann & Ann’s Book Nook. Shirley had a great passion for books and not only to read but also to write. Shirley even had some of her works published in various publications. She had growing interest in history and different religions and went back to school and got her archaeology degree and participated in some local excavations. Shirley last worked at Mercy Hospital Cassville as an admissions clerk and financial aid assistant. She brought joy and comfort to many in need and felt very strongly about caring on the Mission of Sister Catherine McAuley. Shirley was a very caring, courageous and compassionate woman and was always willing to give more then she had to help others. Her smile and love will be missed by so many. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Richard Smith. Survivors include husband Bill Lay three sons and daughter-in-laws, Richard and Danielle Norvelle of Oklahoma City, OK; Darrell and Danielle Norvelle of Yukon, OK; Josh Quick of Stroud, OK. Four daughters Jessica Quick of Cassville, MO; Shannon, Heather, and Kristen Lay of San Diego, CA. Six sisters, Marlene Hanten of Depew, OK; Joyce Smith-Brown of Stroud, OK; Donna Messer of Stroud, OK; Rita Clegg of Ozark, MO; Toni Vandever of Bristow, OK; Tina Sherman of Sapulpa, OK; Twelve grandchildren, Madison & Cally Bowyer, Ian Quick; Aidan, Ethan, Tristan & Jozlynn Norvelle; Annie Cook, Peyton & Parker Norvelle, Kaiya Kelley, Vincent Ramirez and one great grandchild, Emrie Cook. Along with other relatives and many friends.
