Roscoe Barbour Cox

Roscoe Barbour Cox, a lifelong citizen of Chandler, Oklahoma, was born October 29, 1924, and died September 26, 2008 in Miami, Florida. Barbour''s college work at Oklahoma A&M College now Oklahoma State University was interrupted when he was called into service during World War II. Following discharge from the service, he completed his college work and graduated with a degree in business from Oklahoma A&M in 1949. After working with Aetna Life Insurance Company, he was involved in oil leasing and managing the family''s farmland. In 1953 he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives and served nine terms in that position. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, a charter member of the Rotary Club of Chandler, Matheny-Burt Post # 64 of the American Legion, Chandler Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge # 58, Citizens for the Improvement of Chandler CIC, Lincoln County Historical Society, Chandler Alumni Association and Lincoln County On-Stage. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder and treasurer. Among his honors, Barbour was named Chandler''s Citizen of the Year by the Chandler Lions Club, Legionnaire of the Year, Humanitarian of the Year by the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, Mason of the Year, and Alumnus of the Year. Barbour is survived by his sister, Avis Ann Frellick Francis; loving nephews and nieces, Ann Nayyar Gajinder, John Adams Susan, Paul Frellick Grace Baranek, Marcia Frellick Dan Kening, Ross Frellick Michele and three loving care-givers, Cynthia Steele, Joy Williams, and Norma Collins. He was pre-deceased by his father, Roscoe; mother, Avis and sister, Carolyn Adams. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Chandler on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Oak Park Cemetery.
