Robert “Owen” Davis, a longtime resident of Prague, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019. He was surrounded by family when he went to his Heavenly home at the age of 97. Owen was born on March 7, 1922 in Cecil, Arkansas. He was the son of Robert Aaron and Cora Lee (Owens) Davis. Owen was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many. Owen graduated from Wetumka High School. Following high school, Owen served with the United States Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, Owen served as a cook and baker. During Owen’s training, it was determined that he was a better baker than those teaching the course and ended up teaching his own training program. Owen married the love of his life, Pearl (Stealey) Davis, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in December of 1945. Owen and Pearl were happily married for seventy years, when she preceded him in death on October 1, 2015. Owen and Pearl loved to travel. They went on many adventures together, including visits to 48 different states. They also shared a love for music, which they passed on to their children and grandchildren. Owen loved to sing and enjoyed leading the singing at the Prague First Assembly of God Church. Owen was also a very talented baker. He and Pearl purchased the Prague Bakery in 1967 and dedicated their lives to the bakery and to the Prague community until it was sold in 1997. Although Owen sold the bakery, he continued to work there and to help other bakers in the area until he was 90 years old. His dedication to the people of Prague never ended and was recognized by the community. Owen served as a Deacon for the Prague First Assembly of God Church and was a long time member of the Prague Chapter of the American Legion. Owen was also honored as the 2007 Kolache Parade Grand Marshall. Owen and his baking were often featured in many newspaper and magazine articles.
