Robert J. Thornton, McLoud, OK, age 76, was born on August 1, 1927, in Harrah, OK. He was the son of Robert T. & Henrietta P. Sweeny Thornton. He went to be with his Lord, on January 24, 2004, in Oklahoma City, OK. Robert enjoyed his time in the United States Army, retiring in 1974. He worked for the City of Oklahoma City, Animal Control, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Post Road Baptist Church where he was the noted grillmaster. Robert loved to talk on the CB radio around the world and was always busy tinkering and fixing things. He worked outside where he enjoyed the garden and riding the lawn mower. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard Thornton, and his first wife, Shirley Geurin Thornton. Survivors include his wife, Renee Thornton, McLoud, OK; 3 sons & daughters-in-law, Michael J. & Debbie Thornton, CA, Robert J. & Melissa Thornton, II, Harrah, OK, Frederick W. & Brittney Meyer, NC; 3 daughters, Pauletta Hollis, WA, Robin J. Miller, Oklahoma City, OK, Tiffany Watt, McLoud, OK; 1 brother, Vern Thornton, Oklahoma City, OK; 1 sister, Olive Miller, Harrah, OK; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Post Road Baptist Church, 2209 N. Post Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. Services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2004, at Post Road Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, OK, with Rev. Tommy Mosher officiating. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery, Dale, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
