Robert Carl "Short" Warden

Robert Carl ?Short? Warden, 85, was born west of Paden, Oklahoma on January 4, 1920, and departed this life on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at his home south of Prague from smoke inhalation, the result of a house fire. Short was the oldest of seven children born to Dan and Ora Baize Warden. He attended Garden Grove school southeast of Prague. He quit school to farm with his father during the depression when he was 13 years of age. In 1939 he joined the Civilian Concentration Corp and worked in a camp near Yuma, Arizona building trails which are still in existence today in the Grand Canyon National Park. Short joined the U. S. Army in October of 1941, serving in the Army Air Corp in St. Louis, Missouri, Greensboro, North Carolina and Panama City, Panama. He married Katherene Suggs at her parent?s home in Paden on October 31, 1942. He was discharged from the Army in December, 1945. He bought the family farm in January 1948, and remained there for 57 years. Short was at various times a farmer, oil field worker, plumber, water well driller and a school custodian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years in 1997, his parents and twin brothers, who died as infants in 1918. Survivors include, 1 son & daughter-in-law, Doug & Marty Warden, Shawnee; 1 daughter & son-in-law:Jenny & Jerry Pratka, Prague; 3 brothers & 3 sisters-in-law, Alfred & Sibble Warden, Shawnee, Raymond & Billie Warden, Eufaula, Russell & Shirley Warden, Muskogee; 3 sisters & 1 brother-in-law,Hazel Muzny, Oklahoma City, Ida Molander, Oklahoma City, Barbara & Dean Lane, Seminole; 6 grandchildren & spouses, Rob & Patti Warden, Florissant, Missouri, Jason & Angie Winchester, Luther, April & Carey Humphrey, Shawnee, Rob & Heather Winchester, Prague, Josh & Carrie Pratka, Prague, Marria & Doug Brydon, Mesquite, TX; 13 great-grandchildren, Sammy, Lily Katherene, and Molly Sue Warden, Timmy and Anna Winchester, Jordan and Cole Humphrey, Gavin and Sidney Winchester, J.C. and Samantha Pratka, Julie and Courtney Brydon.
