Robert C. "Bob" Williams

Robert C. ?Bob? Williams, 66, of Shawnee died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at his home. He had been a Shawnee resident since 1971. Bob was born April 19, 1938, near Paden, Oklahoma, the 7th of 15 children born to William H. and Laura E. Green Williams. Bob grew up in the Midway community north of Paden and attended Midway and Paden public schools. He completed his junior year of formalized education at Paden High School in May of 1955. He later received his GED from Oklahoma City University and attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma. Bob enlisted to serve three years in the U. S. Army in July, 1955. He served two years and four months in Orleans, France. He was assigned to the 1984th Communications Group and worked as a Teletype Operator and Shift Leader in the Base Communications Center. He returned to the United States in June, 1958 and received an honorable discharge at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas. He worked for Z & M Construction Company at Oklahoma City and later worked as a roughneck for Viersen & Cochran Drilling Company. Bob married Carolyn Sue Holman on June 8, 1959, in his mother?s home at Paden. Bob started working for the civil service in October, 1959, at Tinker Air Force Base. In his first year of employment, he worked in Maintenance Accessories and later went to work as a Teletype Operator, Cryptographer and Shift Leader in the Base Communications Center. In 1966, he went to work in the computer data services field. Bob advanced from Computer Technician to Computer Programmer and to Computer Specialist. In 1977, he went to work for the Directorate of Maintenance as a Management Analyst redesigning and maintaining existing computer data systems. Bob retired from Tinker Air Force Base on January 1, 1988, at 49, with 31 years and 3 months of government service. He served as little league baseball coach at Dale, Oklahoma. He served as an assistant, and later head coach of the Shawnee American Legion baseball team. Bob served as a volunteer at Shawnee Medical Center hospital in 1989-1990, and also served as a substitute teacher at Shawnee and McLoud public schools. He attended Thompson Heights Church of Christ at Shawnee. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Williams; two sisters, Charlotte Williams and Joyce Miles. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Williams, of the home; son & daughter-in-law, Scott & Linda Williams, Shawnee; daughter & son-in-law, Tammy & Jim Hartman, Shawnee; grandchildren, Robert Scott Williams, Roland, OK, Zachary Blake Williams of Roland, OK, Brady Wayne Williams, of Shawnee; 5 brothers & 3 sisters-in-law,Jack Williams, Fruita, Colorado, Gene & Shirley Williams, Seminole, Billy Williams, Seminole, Max & Darlene Williams, Morris, Paul & Carolyn Williams, Stroud; 6 sisters & 5 brothers-in-law, Dorothy & Harvey Mayfield, Paden, Mary & Billy Davis, Prague, Jessie Vaughan, Norman, Carolyn & Larry Bigbie, Norman, Shirley & Bobby Goble, Oklahoma City, Sandra & Greg Gates of Plano, TX; Mother-in-law, Evelyn Holman, Paden; aunt, Lucille Williams, Midwest City; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
