Richard Samuel Evans, a long-time Stroud, Oklahoma, resident was born on June 30, 1917 in Stroud, Oklahoma, and departed this life on January 16, 2004, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years. Richard was the son of Joseph F. and Vira Stephenson Evans. He was the owner of the Evans Lumber Company in Stroud. Richard served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Hallie Rives Fenderson on January 17, 1948 in Bristow, Oklahoma. Richard was a member of the First Christian Church, former Mayor, active in the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Stroud goverment. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, one sister, and one brother. Survivors include: one son: David A. Evans of Stroud; one daughter and son-in-law: Marilyn and Brent Lagere of Chandler; special friend: Bernice Bridges of Stroud; one sister-in-law: Pat Rives of Panama City, FL; seven grandchildren; several neices and nephews; other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the Stroud School Foundation Class of 1935, in care of Carolyn Ferguson at the BancFirst in Stroud. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2004, 2:00 P.M., at the First Christian Church in Stroud, Oklahoma, with Rev. Sandy Burns officating, Burial will follow in the stroud Cemetery, Stroud, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
