Rachel B. Melton

Rachel Dye Melton, 89, of Chandler, died July 21, 2011. She was born June 17, 1922, in Davenport to William B. Dye and Lillian Rowland Dye. She attended Davenport High School. She married Kenneth Harold Melton on January 7, 1939. They were married for 62 years until Kenneth’s death in 2001. From the beginning, Rachel was an active young woman always happiest when outside working or playing. She was a stay at home mother who loved to be doing yard work, growing roses and other flowers, picking pecans, feeding the farm animals and even driving a tractor. Rachel was active in the Eastern Stars, achieving Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Christian Church. Rachel was most proud of being a wife and mother, and her greatest joy was raising her children. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Ronald P. Melton; brother, Kenneth O. Dye; granddaughter, Tina R, Smith; great grandson; Koveigh Smith; daughter-in-law, Linda Costner Melton; granddaughter-in-law, Cindy McCrory Smith. Survivors include her children: Linda Smith and husband Ray of Chandler, OK; Harold Melton and wife Janis of Pineville, MO; Jim Melton of Okla. City, OK; Janie Hale and husband Gerald of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Robin Smith Helm and husband Tim, Skip Smith and wife Tracey, Marjorie Richards and husband Mark, Martha Gammon and husband Wayne, Mary Cook, Jacob Melton, Caimen Melton, Jennifer Hale and Grant Hale; 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the management and staff of the Chandler Nursing Center and Good Shepherd Hospice for their love, kindness and exceptional care.
