Orville Lee Williams

September 30, 1933 — November 22, 2017

Orville Lee Williams passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 22, 2017. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM, at the Assembly of God Church in Prague, Oklahoma, with burial to follow at Fields Cemetery in Porum, Oklahoma at 2:30 PM. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague. Orville Lee Williams was born on September 30, 1933 at Ardmore, Oklahoma the only son of William Allen Williams and Maudie (Scott) Williams. The family resided in Ardmore until 1944 when Orville’s father took a job with Douglas Aircraft and the family relocated to Chandler, Oklahoma. Not long after moving to Chandler, Orville’s father became ill and passed away in 1945. From that time forward, Orville began to work any way he could to help his mother make ends meet. He continued his schooling in Chandler, graduating with the class of 1952. On November 16, 1953 Orville married Leota Murray, in Chandler where they established their home. To this union three children were born: Kenneth Allen in 1955, Charles Bradley in 1957 and finally Nancy Lynn in 1970. Orville worked many jobs over the years to support his family, never afraid of hard work and challenges. Among those jobs: Gaylord’s Body Shop; driving a truck for Ward’s Drilling Company; driving a wrecker after hours for Bob Terrell; a pumper and service man for Melvin Williams; a mechanic and all-around handy man for Margaret and Willie Freeman, then later Larry Freeman at Lincoln Liquefied Gas Co.; Diener Mill Garment Factory; and driving a milk truck for Mr. Jarvis. From October 1, 1987 to December 31, 1995 Orville worked for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. It was there that he met and fell in love with his co-worker, Ruby Jean Ross. Orville and Ruby married on June 21, 1996 at the Assembly of God Church in Prague with all of their children as witnesses. Orville made the move from Chandler to Prague where he was welcomed into Ruby’s family, community and church. Orville and Ruby spent over 21 years together making their home in Prague. After their retirement from the Turnpike, they most enjoyed traveling all over the United States camping, site seeing and visiting family and friends. For a few years, they packed up the camper every August and made the trip to the Sand Dunes National Park where they were camp hosts from August through October. They loved their time there and made many wonderful friends. They always welcomed family and friends to come to visit and camp with them while they were there. After Orville and Ruby felt like they were no longer up to the responsibilities of the job, they still traveled back to the Sand Dunes as often as they could to visit. Even with his health failing in recent years, Orville would always travel anywhere, anytime the family would let him. He particularly enjoyed traveling anywhere there was fall foliage or snow. Orville is survived by his wife Ruby of the home in Prague; his children Kenneth Williams and wife Barbara of Perkins; Brad Williams and wife Helen of Wellston; Nancy Pope and husband Troy of Woodward; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition, Orville is survived by Ruby’s children whom he cared for deeply: Jackie Ross and wife Steffany of Choctaw; Sharon Holder and husband Gary of Prague; daughter-in-law Angela Ross of McCloud; 7 bonus grandchildren and 5 bonus great-grandchildren. Orville was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maudie Williams and step-son Michael Ross.
