Chandler, Oklahoma, resident, Opal O. Wilbanks, formerly of Meeker, was born on February 26, 1920, in Rossville, Oklahoma, and departed this life on November 6, 2005, in Chandler, at the age of 85 years. Opal was the daughter of Carl and Vergie Hall Fenderson. She attended Union Grade #1 White Rock School where she graduated as Salutatorian. Opal was a graduate of the Cheatham Business College. She married Glenn Marvin Wilbanks on September 20, 1942, in Davenport, Oklahoma. Opal was the Lincoln County Treasurer from 1939 to 1942. She then worked at the First National Bank in Chandler and worked part time for the Lincoln County Treasurer and Assessors office. Opal was also the Lincoln County Court Clerk for twenty-seven years. She had over 36 years of public service during her career. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chandler, lifetime member of the Chandler Chapter of OES, and member of the Lincoln County Historical Society. Opal served as the President of Oklahoma State Clerk?s Association for many years and was the 1976 Meeker citizen of the year. Her parents; husband; one daughter, Glenna June Wilbanks; one brother; and one sister preceded Opal in death. Survivors include, Three daughters & sons-in-law, Virginia & Charles Frazier of Chandler, OK, Linda & James Morrison of Bartlesville, OK, Karlene Cambell of Meeker, OK, Brother & sister-in-law:Gail & Lil Fenderson of Meeker, OK, Three sisters-in-law, Shirley Bottoms of Ft. Worth, TX, Melva & Mick Lee of San Diego, CA, Ethelyene Wilbanks of Tulsa, OK. 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends. Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church in Chandler.
