Norma Battershell

Norma Augusta (Schubert) Battershell was born on January 11, 1925, in Adair, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Sunday, November 29, 2009, in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 84. Norma, the daughter of Paul Gerhardt and Augusta Katherine (Meyer-Peper) Schubert, was a resident of Meeker. She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School until the fall of 1943 when she started working at Tinker Air Force Base. She married Joe Leslie Battershell on November 23, 1960 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1985. She left Tinker to raise her family and later returned to work as a Medical Records Clerk at Shawnee Medical Center. She went on to become the Medical Records Director for Prague Municipal Hospital, which she thoroughly enjoyed until her retirement in 1992. Norma was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Adair, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City, and Morning Star Baptist Church in Meeker where she was active in the choir. Her parents, four brothers, and four sisters also preceded Norma in death. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, David and Nancy Battershell of Dale, Leslie Battershell of Sapulpa; daughter, Zonita Battershell of Shawnee; grandchildren, Schrae, Battershell Rainey of Broken Arrow, Lucas, Molly and Emily Battershell of Dale; sister, Hilda Sevart of Cedar Rapids, IA; a host of other relatives and friends.
