Miriam Irene Horn

Miriam Irene Horn was born in Stroud, Oklahoma on July 30,1920 and departed this life in Stroud, Oklahoma on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the age of 97 years. She was the daughter of Daniel Bowen and Minnie E. (Wood) Collins. She was a resident of Stroud most of her life. Miriam graduated from Stroud High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Oklahoma City University. While living in Oklahoma City, she met John Walter Horn. He preceded her in death February of 2014 after a marriage lasting 71 years. John's career in the U.S. Army took them to many places: El Paso, TX., Ft. Sill, OK., Leesville, LA., Ft. Riley, KS., Bamburg, Nuremburg and Berlin, Germany. Miriam taught at the Catholic School in Lawton, OK., Classes for soldiers in Louisiana and Kindergarten in Stroud. While John was deployed in Korea and Vietnam, Miriam resided in Stroud with their two children. In 1968 John and Miriam built their home in Stroud, one block from the home Miriam grew up in. Miriam was instrumental in the development of the Stroud Public Library and served as Head Librarian for many years. She was also the driving force behind the Stroud History. Miriam was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Stroud and an avid quilter with the Methodist Quilters. Miriam was nominated Stroud Citizen of the Year in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers. Survivors included, one son, Dale Horn and wife Kathy of Wesley Chapel, Florida, one daughter, Marilyn Bouhl and husband Dave of Carbondale, Illinois, one brother, Harlan Collins of Ardmore, Grandchildren, Michael Horn (Jenilee), Greg Bouhl (Crystal), and Gary Bouhl (Megan), and great grandchildren, Peyton, Spencer and Olivia. Family will receive family and friends on Thursday, July 12, 2018 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Stroud on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Ge'rard Nsabimana officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
