Minnie was born December 23, 1923 in McLoud, OK to Robert Lee and Grace Louise (Vaughn) Wood. She graduated from McLoud High School. She married Leo Andrew Nowakowski on September 30, 1944 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Shawnee. After their marriage they lived on a farm northeast of McLoud. During that time, they had four sons. In 1964, they moved into a new home on their farm northwest of Harrah where she resided until her death. Minnie and Leo loved to dance especially the polka. They spent many Saturday nights at the Czech Hall in Yukon as well as attending the Czech, Kolache, and McLoud's Blackberry Festivals were they danced the night away. Minnie was a homemaker and a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church, where she was one of the original Catholic Daughters. She played the organ for over 35 years first at St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church in McLoud and then at St. Teresa's. She loved OU Football and went to many a game to cheer on her beloved Sooners. Her parents, one brother, Robert M. Wood, one sister, Frances Clift, and one son, Stephen Wood Nowakowski, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leo of the home, three sons, Robert Leo Nowakowski and his wife Geneale of McLoud, Gregory Dean Nowakowski and Michael Andrew Nowakowski and his wife Charlotte of Harrah, 10 grandchildren & spouses, Jetta & Mike Reed, Peter & Robin Nowakowski, Jacob & Penny Nowakowski, Ben & Kristin, Nowakowski, Josh & Tammy Nowakowski, Samuel & Jennifer Nowakowski, Annie & Steve Rolec, Brooke & Mike Stuart, Tyler & Chad Martin, Tonie & Kyle Williamson, 26 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a great many other relatives and friends. A wake service will be held 5:00 PM, Sunday, September 9, 2012, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Harrah, OK. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 10, 2012, at the St. Teresa Catholic Church, Harrah, OK, with Father Lucas Raj Pinapati officiating. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Catholic Cemetery, Harrah, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
