Minnie Prevett

November 22, 1924 — May 25, 2010

Minnie Mae Conn Prevett, of Dothan, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at home after a six year fight with cancer. She was 85. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 28, 2010 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Dothan with Rev. Bob Gross and Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Visitation will be immediately prior to the service beginning at 1:30 PM. A Funeral will also be held in Prague, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Conn and Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Burial will be in Prague City Cemetery in Prague, Oklahoma. Arrangements are being handled by Byrd Funeral Home, Dothan, AL and Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Prague, OK. Mrs. Prevett was born November 22, 1924 in Lexington, Oklahoma to Dan and Maud Williams Conn. She participated in 4-H, softball and basketball. She graduated as valedictorian from Lexington High School in 1943, having played on the women's basketball team. Therefore, she was a lifelong basketball fan, especially women's basketball. She attended Oklahoma A & M studying Business before entering the workforce. She married Ed Prevett of Paden, Oklahoma in 1948. Her husband's job took them to Oklahoma City, Fayetteville, TN, Birmingham, Atlanta, Memphis and Louisville. She worked for Oklahoma Farmer Union Insurance, directed a kindergarten, and worked in many business offices, ending as office manager for a medical practice in Louisville, Kentucky. After her husband's death, she moved to Dothan, Alabama in 1993. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, quilting, family reunions, cooking, working on the computer and watching her grandchildren, Eric and Elizabeth grow up. Having become a Christian at a young age, she and her husband were active members of church wherever they lived. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Dothan, participating in the Singing Senior Choir, Community Ministries, the Media Library and various senior adult activities. A special 'Thank You' goes out to all the friends and FBC church members who prayed for her during her illness and who brought food and helped in so many ways. A special thanks to her Sunday School class who faithfully checked on Minnie during the long years of her illness, and to Covenant Hospice for their special care. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Maud Williams Conn; husband, Ed Prevett; and brother, Jasper Conn. She is survived by a son, Larry Prevett and his wife, Debra, Bisbee, Arizona; a daughter, Linda Gross and her husband, Bob, Dothan; two grandchildren, Eric Gross and Elizabeth Gross, Dothan; by three sisters, Lavada Adams, Tallahassee, Florida; Joy Carter, Lawton, Oklahoma; Mary Warren and her husband, Tom, Wagoner, Oklahoma; by two brothers, Dwight Conn and his wife, Lanora, Bethany, Oklahoma; Joe Conn and his wife, Sandra, Cleveland, Oklahoma; brothers and sisters-in-law, J.L. and Wilma Stone, Prague, Oklahoma, Roy and Donna Prevett, Prague, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund, First Baptist Church, PO Box 2025, Dothan, AL, 36302.
