Mike Manek, age 86, of Harrah, OK, was born on February 16, 1922 in Harrah, OK. He was the son of Mike and Anna Wienger Manek. He passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Mike served in the 45th Infantry of the U. S. Army, Co. 'C' 2829th Engr Combat Bn. He received a Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, a Silver Star, Bronze Star and Bronze Arrowhead. He fought in Sicily, France, Germany and Central Europe during World War II. He married Julia Skropka on October 16, 1948, in Oklahoma City, OK. He worked in maintenance at Wilson & Co. for over 30 years. Mike was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Jones, OK. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and going for walks at home and taking Julie shopping and rides around the lake. He also loved the outdoors and spending special time with his family, especially granddaughter, Michelle and great-grandson, Nathan. Mike was generous and genuine and he will be missed very, very much. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Mike is survived by his wife, Julie; 2 daughters, Theresa, Shirley and their husbands of Oklahoma City; 1 brother; 2 sisters; 1 granddaughter; 1 great-grandson and many other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 14, 2008 at St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Jones, OK, with Father Raphael Moore officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Jones, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service, Harrah, OK.
