Michael Alan Nichols

Michael A. Nichols was born on February 21, 1950, in Shawnee ,Oklahoma and departed this life on Friday, September 9, 2011, in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 61. Mike, the son of Herschel Abraham and Reba Lawanda (Denney) Nichols, was a lifelong resident of the Garden Grove area southwest of Prague. Mike graduated from Prague High School in 1968. Following graduation, he entered OSU and graduated in 1972 with a degree in agricultural journalism. He married Donna McGinnis on September 21, 1974 in Prague. He worked at the Shawnee News Star from 1974 to 1981 Mike then began a career with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Journal which later became a quarterly publication, Oklahoma Country Magazine. He retired as editor/senior writer in December 2010. He was a member of Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Mike was preceded in death by his mother in April of this year. Survivors include his father, Herschel Nichols of Prague; his wife,Donna Nichols of the home; son and daughter in law, Sean and Sara Nichols of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Alivia of Oklahoma City; sister. Nina Nichols of Denver, Colorado; mother and father-in-law, Sam and Betty McGinnis of Prague; sister-in-law:Diana Mayfield of Prague; brothers-in-law:Sammy McGinnis and his wife Kae Dawn of Shawnee, Randal McGinnis of Prague, Tommy McGinnis and his wife Liz of Prague; uncle, Bobby Denney and his wife Betty of Prague; aunt, Freda Dimpel of Shawnee; and special caregiver, Kyle Dougherty. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM, at Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Donnie Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Grove Cemetery in Prague.
