Marjorie Joann (Higginbothom) Smith, long-time resident of Stroud, Oklahoma, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 86. "Joann" as she was known by her family and friends, was born on June 23, 1935, in Drumright, Oklahoma to Oliver Perry Morton and Sadie America (Phillips) Higginbothom. She was one of five sisters born to the Higginbothom family. Joann graduated from Drumright High School in 1953. In 1955, she married Willie D. Smith at the First Baptist Church in Tulsa. Willie and Joann had one son, Steve Smith. After having their son, Joann spent some years as a stay-at-home mother. Joann also worked for the bank in Bristow, Oklahoma for many years, and was a librarian at the Stroud Library for 27 years. Joann was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Stroud for many years. In recent years, she served as a librarian for the Church. She will be greatly missed by her Church family. Joann enjoyed embroidery, and she was a talented seamstress. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Sadie Higginbothom; and four sisters, Mary Berry, Jean Lieberman, Berniece Berry, and Gerry Manley. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Willie Smith; her son, Steve Smith and his wife, Mary; granddaughters, Tracy Smith, and Debra Smith and her husband, Jeff; and two great-grandchildren, Annabel Behnke, and Wyatt Behnke; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
