Mrs. Thompson was born January 16, 1916, the youngest child of William J. and Ellen Whitmore Mohrbacher. She was a lifelong resident of Prague. In 1932, she and Forrest Glenn Thompson were united in marriage. They were married for 53 years until his death in 1985. Mrs. Thompson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Prague all her life. She taught Sunday school there for more than 30 years, she served as church secretary for 17 years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a longtime member of the Federated Arts Club, having served as its president and secretary-treasurer during her membership. As the granddaughter of Prague?s first mayor, Marie was quite knowledgeable about the city?s history. Area residents always considered her a good source of information when it came to questions about Prague?s past. Many pieces of her family?s memorabilia are on display in the Prague Historical Museum, where she served several years as a volunteer. In addition to her church and social activities and a busy family life, she was employed at the Prague Wholesale Company from 1959 until her retirement in 1988. Marie was always thinking of others. Not a day went by that she didn?t try to help someone, regardless of her own struggles. She truly felt this was her purpose in life, yet the numerous birthday and Christmas cards she received every year always amazed her. She was so surprised to find people were thinking of her. She exemplified humility and kindness, and her trust in the Lord was immense. Never has a kinder person walked this earth. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her mother, Ellen Mohrbacher; her father, William J. Mohrbacher; a sister, Marguerite Elizabeth Tope; and a brother, Bud Mohrbacher. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and Gus Hendrix of Ardmore; two granddaughters, Lisa Ann Fisher, of the home, and Linda Fisher Middleton and her husband, Steve, of Edmond; two great-grandchildren, Ellen Middleton and Matthew Middleton of Edmond; five nephews, Charles Tope of Norman; Buddy Mohrbacher of Dallas, Texas; Gene Thompson of Bristow; David Thompson of Bristow, and Tom Thompson of Norman. She is also survived by 4 great-nephews, Scott Tope of Norman; Benjamin Mohrbacher and Andrew Mohrbacher, Austin, Texas; Matthew Mohrbacher, Dallas, Texas; a sister-in-law, Opal Johnson, of St. David, Arizona, and many other relatives. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Prague.
