Margaret Rae Kerr

June 26, 1931 — June 4, 2024

Margaret Rae Kerr, of Prague, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 in Prague, at the age of 92.  Margaret was born on June 26, 1931 in Paden, Oklahoma.  She was the daughter of Virgil Lee and Dollie Agnes (Craig) Morelock.  Margaret grew up and attended school in Slick, Oklahoma. During the Summer before her senior year while staying with her sister in Liberal in Kansas and working as a waitress, she met the love of her life, Ernest J. Kerr. The couple were married on September 25, 1948.  Together, they moved around the country, raising their 8 children and in 1972, settled back down in Oklahoma.  Margaret and Ernest were happily married for 42 years when he preceded her in death on February 13, 1991.

Later in life, she earned her GED, and after moving home to Oklahoma in 1972, Margaret enrolled in the nursing program at Seminole Junior College.  In 1975, she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse and started her career in Nursing.  She went to work at the juvenile center in Boley and stayed through it’s transition to the John H. Lilly Correctional Center. After retiring from John Lilly, she worked at hospitals and nursing homes in the area and around the state.  She loved to work and to take care of those in need.

Margaret was known for hard work ethic, her big heart and her desire to succeed.  She took on many challenges, with grit and grace.  In addition to completing her education and her nursing career, she also took on the challenge of learning to play the piano at fifty years old.  Not only did she learn to play, but she learned to play well and enjoyed playing.  Margaret loved her flower gardens and growing vegetables.  You would often find her in her favorite seat, in front of the picture window, watching the birds outside.  Her greatest passion, was that of her family.  She held her family dear to her and she enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also kept close relationships with her nieces and nephews throughout the years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of more than 42 years, Ernest Kerr; two sons, Stanley Kerr and Floyd “Joe” Kerr; two brothers, Don Morelock and Doyle Morelock and four sisters; Mary Shouse, Delores Brown, Thelma Briggs and Ruth Nootbaar.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four sons; Michael Kerr of Prague, Ronald Kerr and his wife, Nancy of Edmond, William “Dexter” Kerr and his wife, Sandra of Lincoln, AR, and Craig Kerr and his wife, Susan of Prague; two daughters, Tina Powell and her husband Phillip of Eufaula, and Rosalie West of Tulsa; two sisters, Darlene Collins of Prague, and Janice Burkhart and husband Nevin of Bethany; twenty grandchildren, Becky Parks, Liz Blocker, Henry Arthur, Jenny Kerr, Shauna McNeil, Jeffrey Kerr, Maureen Courtney, Ricky Kerr, Sue Matias, Tara Kerr, Shane Kerr, April Kerr, Kyle Kerr, Megan Adcock, Mandy Powell, Randy Coon, Joshua Fox, Harley Tedder, Jordan Kerr and Jillian Bullard; and numerous great-grandchildren and great, great, grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
