Mack Gallaway

Mack Gallaway, lifelong Meeker resident, departed this life on February 8, 2012. Mack was born on September 26, 1913, to Charley Francis and Bertha (Wallace) Gallaway. During his early years, Mack attended Valley View School northwest of Meeker and took violin and piano lessons from Mrs. Garnett Hampton. He married Nona Lorene Johnson on November 1, 1933. In the late 1930s, they deeded a portion of their property for the establishment of Mount Olive Baptist Church which was located four and one-half miles west of Meeker on the north side of Hwy 62. While the church was in operation, Mack played the piano for the services. In 1948, Mack worked in a section gang for the railroad, keeping the tracks in operating order, then later worked at the Shell pump station west of Meeker. Mack farmed all his life, and in the early 1950s he and his dad started a dairy operation. He and Nona worked side by side in the dairy for the next 35 years until he retired in 1974. Mack was preceded in death by his parents and Nona, his wife of 74 years. Survivors include numerous family members and friends. Memorials may be made in Mack's memory to: Prairie View Hospice, 607 E. 1st Street, Chandler, OK 74834. Viewing and visitation will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker on Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 3:00 PM, at New Salem Cemetery in Meeker with Rev. Joe Jones and Rev. Keith Cole officiating.
