Lucy Newport, 88, of Prague, Oklahoma died peacefully on May 27, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Frances Zelch, in Hudson, Ohio. Lucy was born in Curtis, Oklahoma on March 2, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents, former Mayor of Oklahoma City, OK, John Frank Martin and Margaret Mary Doyle; her husband of 43 years, Edward Lee Newport; their three sons, James Newport, Gregory (Prim) Newport, and George (Melissa) Newport; one grandchild, Lucy Newport; three brothers, Sam, Jerry and Joe; and two sisters, Mary and Emily Ann. She is survived by her children, Mary Anne (Mike) Landreth of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Joseph Newport of Ontario Ottawa, Canada; Peter Newport of Dallas, Texas; Gerard (Joan) Newport of Vienna, Missouri; Paul (Ruth) Newport of Paden, Oklahoma; Robert (Jane) Newport of Moore, Oklahoma; Susan (Kevin) Boone of Denton, Texas; Barbara (Michael) Boone of Bedford, Texas; Caroline (Rick) Johnson of Carrollton, Texas; Timothy (Erin) of Topeka, Kansas; Daniel (Vicky) of Dallas, Texas; and Frances (Dave) Zelch of Hudson, Ohio. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother, Jack Madden of California; and one sister, Mary Lou Williams of Arkansas. Lucy was a graduate from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, where she used to love to do pirouettes from one end of the hall to the other. When Lucy was young, she also rode show horses, as well as played the piano quite nicely. She loved to take long walks with Edward after dinner and definitely had to watch the evening news. Lucy was devoted to the Catholic Church with each day praying the rosary. She enjoyed the visits and calls from her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague at 304 Jim Thorpe Blvd., Prague, OK 74864. A wake and rosary will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at 7:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague. A Christian Mass will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague with Reverend Father Price M. Oswalt, K.C.H.S. officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
