Lorne Durant, Harrah, OK, age 78, was born February 17, 1927, in, Sault St. Marie, MI, and departed this life on August 12, 2005, in Midwest City, OK. Lorne was the son of Lorne W. & Florence Maude Hubbert Durant. He grew up in Michigan and worked at Dow Chemical in Bay City, MI. He joined the U.S. Army in June, 1945, and served two tours in Korea and two tours in Japan. On February 14, 1946, in Sault St. Marie, MI, he married Syble Jewel Sutton. Together they spent the next twenty-three years moving around to different locations with the military. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage and six children. He was able to travel and see the world and most of the time was accompanied by his family. Some of his unforgettable memories were climbing the Statue of Liberty and Mt. Fujii in Japan. In 1968, Lorne retired from the military and he and his family finally settled in Harrah, OK. He went to work as a printer at FAA in Oklahoma City, until his retirement in 1989. He was a Friends of the Library volunteer for several years and was a member of the VFW and the First Baptist Church, Harrah, OK. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing dominos, auctions and family get togethers. Lorne loved his family, adored his grandchildren, and never met a dish of homemade ice cream he didn?t like. Lorne was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Syble Durant, Harrah, OK; 3 sons & 2 daughters-in-law, Lorne Preston & Glenda Durant, Cache, OK, Steve & Shari Durant, Cumming, GA, Dennis Durant, Canton, KS; 3 daughters & 2 sons-in-law, Marsha Durant, Luther, OK, Teresa & Byam Lacy, Canton, KS, Karyn & Carl Bright, Harrah, OK; 2 brothers, Kenneth Durant, Lawton, OK, Roy Durant, Oklahoma City, OK; 2 sisters, Loretta Davis, Lawton, OK, Edna Cowell, Trenton, MI; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, in Harrah, OK, with Dr. Tony Nickel officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service, Harrah, Oklahoma.
