Lillian Stinnett was born February 20, 1932, in El Reno, Oklahoma, and died October 4, 2011, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the age of 79 years. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to Samuel and Christine (Campbell) Phillips. Lillian graduated Sparks High School in 1950 and on September 30 of that year married Philip Keith Stinnett. To this union was born four children: Philip, Jr., Christopher, Elizabeth and Andrew. Phil passed away in April 2002, after 51 years of marriage. Lillian was trained and worked in the fledgling field of computer data processing, but later worked in government service before embarking on a career as an insurance agent and land developer. Throughout her life, she loved to write and enjoyed success writing fiction and nonfiction, book reviews, travel, personal profile and professional newspaper columns, and was responsible for showcasing the city of Guthrie for Veranda magazine. She was a member of the Oklahoma Writers’ Federation and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Guthrie. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phil, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by five sisters, her four children, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
