Leonard Funk Sr.

June 7, 1939 — October 28, 2015

Leonard “Haskell” Funk, Sr. was born on June 7, 1939, in Shattuck, OK, the baby of six children, and departed this life on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, KS at the age of 76. Haskell, the son of Leonard Amos and Julia Estella (Leist) Funk, was a resident of Howard, KS. He grew up and attended school in Gage, OK. At the age of 17, he entered the United States Navy for a short time. In 1959, he entered the construction field, advancing to an accomplished pipefitter/welder , working for several companies across the United States. In 1968, Haskell married Jackie Marie Patterson. To this union, Leonard, Jr., Charlie and Sara Ann Funk were born. The couple later divorced. On July 2, 1992, Haskell married Joann Dolores McCormick in Fredonia, KS. To this union, Sheila, Wenona, Brenda and Troy. Joann survives at their home in Howard, KS, where they enjoyed 23 years with their 7 children, 45 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Haskell’s father, Leonard; mother, Julia; only brother, Calvin Funk and eldest sister, Carolyn Null preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, Joann, he is survived by his daughter, Sheila and husband, Chris Terrell of Prague, OK and their 3 children, Elizabeth Ann Terrell of the home. Son, Caleb and wife, Leslie Terrell of Prague, OK, their sons, Landon and Braydon. Daughter, Shayna and husband, Monty Whittet and their daughter, Alexa of Macomb, OK of the home. Daughter, Wenona and husband, Kevin Freeman of Sedan, KS and their 7 children, son, Brandon Foster and wife, Cassondra of Appleton, MN and their children, daughters, Echo and Williow and sons, Reese and Finnigan of the home. Daughter, Nichole Belgarde of Independence, KS and son, Briar of the home. Daughter, Lacey Vazquez and husband, Juan of Early, IA and their 3 children, daughter, Jacey, son, Juan, and daughter, Josey of the home. Daughter, Alicia Hodja and husband, Martin of Independence, KS and daughters, Ryleigh, Charleigh, and Emmaleigh of the home. Daughter, Leslie Harrod of Sioux Rapids, IA. Son, Adam and wife, Mary Whitehurst of Independence, KS and sons, Adam, Elijah and William of the home. Daughter, Kaylee Harrod of Severy, KS and son, Kayden. Daughter, Brenda Miles and husband, Danny of Oakview, CA and their daughters, Karley and Mikayla of the home. Son, Troy and wife, Lynn McCormick of Athen, IA and their 5 sons, Cody, Keaton and Caden McCormick of the home, Sean Meyer of Omaha, NE and Brandon Meyer and wife, Raquel of Anthen, IA, Son, Leonard H. Funk Jr. and wife, Melissa (Graves) of Decatur, AR and their 6 children. Son, Bradley Graves and wife, Hannah of Cenerton, AR. Son, Brady and wife, Felicia Graves of San Diego, CA and daughter, Makenzee of the home. Daughter, Kourtnee Funk and Fiancee’, Daniel Byrd of Gentry, AR. Sons, Brody and Bryson, and daughter, Kaitlyn Funk of the home. Son, Charles (Charlie) Funk and Dorinda Funk of Fredonia, KS and their 6 children. Son, Braxton (Bub) Funk and daughters, Julia, Allison, Ashley, and McKayla Funk of the home. Son, Ben Olive and wife, Sarah of Ketchum, OK and their 2 children, son, Lucas and daughter, Karlie of the home. Daughter, Sara Edwards and husband, Chris of Olympia, WA and their 5 children. Sons, McClain Cretcher, Garasyn and Tristyn Edwards, and daughters, Jaidynn and Reilynn Edwards of the home. Beloved sisters, Bonita Dunnihoo of Shattuck, OK, Coleen Miller of Lawton, OK and Nadine Marshall of Wayside, KS. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends he called family. Leonard Haskell was a compassionate, patient, loving person, who devoted his time to making memories for his family to last for generations. Our hearts are forever engraved with the love he shared. Thank you for sharing in his life. He loved us dearly. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM, at Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prague, Oklahoma with Brother Charlie Clem and Brother Chris Terrell (son-in-law) officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Grove Cemetery in Prague. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
