Lee Horne was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on July 9, 1937, and departed this life at his home in Ada, Oklahoma on September 21, 2009, at the age of 72. Lee was the son of William Chester and Eva May (Hawthorne) Horne. He graduated from Holdenville High School and attended the University of Oklahoma on a football and basketball scholarship. He transferred to East Central State College and continued to play football for East Central until he received his undergraduate degree. He was married to Judy Ruble in Ada on June 3, 1962. He was football coach at Pawnee, Oklahoma from 1962 to 1964 and then continued his coaching career at Cameron University from 1964 to 1970. He earned his master’s degree in 1966. In 1970 he moved to Ada and became a New York Life Insurance Agent. He remained an active and well-respected agent until his death. He had served in the Oklahoma National Guard, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada, and was well-known for being a driving force for both Ada High School and East Central University Athletics. Lee was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chester Horne. Lee will be missed greatly by his professional associates, his friends, and his family, all of whom respected and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judy Horne, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law,Steve and Allison Horne of Ada, Jay and Kenda Horne of Ada; one brother and his wife, Bill Horne, Sr. and Twylah Horne of Ada; three grandchildren, Cameron Horne of Ada, Zachary and Joshua Horne of Ada; nephew and nieces, Bill Horne, Jr.of Ada, Jennetta Bagwell of Ada, Jeonone Kessler of Edmond. In addition, Lee is also survived by his close friend, associate and daily “coach,” Ken Johnson and his wife June of Ada. To honor the request of Lee, there will be no viewing or visitation. Floral offerings may be delivered to the First Baptist Church of Ada prior to the memorial service. The memorial service will follow the private family burial. His memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Ada with Rev. Pat Kilby officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
