Laverne Coomer Montgomery

March 11, 1929 — October 18, 2012

Ella LaVerne Montgomery was born on March 11, 1929, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at her home in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 83. Laverne, the daughter of Henry Harris and Ethel Pearl (Lowe) Coomer, was a life-long resident of Prague. She attended Prairie Dale Grade School and graduated from Centerview High School with the class of 1947. She married Dwight Forrest Montgomery on September 30, 1947. LaVerne was a life-long member of Garden Grove Missionary Church where she was the organist for 23 years and taught Sunday School for many years. LaVerne began working at Parks Brothers Funeral Service on February 1, 1972. Following her retirement as a full-time employee, she continued working at the funeral home part time until recently. Laverne was a talented seamstress whose handmade Czech costumes are coveted possessions. She also enjoyed various arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, and playing the piano. She was loved and will be missed by many. Her parents; one brother, Kenneth; mother and father-in-law, Alvin and Pearl Montgomery; Aunt, Ella Lowe; and nephew, Burlan Coomer, preceded Laverne in death. Survivors include, her husband of 65 years, Dwight Montgomery of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dale Wayne and Janie Montgomery of Shawnee; daughter, Linda Diane Eubanks of Glenpool; brothers, her twin, Lavon Coomer and his wife Louise of Prague, and Hershel Coomer and his wife Joanne of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Irene Coomer of Prague, Viva Stacy of Shawnee, Mary Wade of Great Bend, KS; grandchildren, Brent and Ronda Dostal, Dyawana Shields, Dr. Travis Dale Montgomery and Janna, Ryan Ralls, Tere Ralls; great-ggrandchildren, Corbin Ralls, Drennan Ralls, Kierian Shields, Kade Shields, Jacob Dostal, Miriam Dostal, Anna Distal; great-great-granddaughter, Lyric Ralls; other relatives and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home on Friday evening, October 19, 2012, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM, at Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Charlie Clem officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Grove Cemetery in Prague.
