Lavada M. Place, long-time Chandler, Oklahoma, resident was born May 18, 1928, in Carney, Oklahoma. She departed this life on December 26, 2017, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years. Lavada was the daughter of Henry David and Fady Long (Suggs) Wakley. She grew up and attended school in Carney. Lavada married Jackie Place in 1943. After his death, she married John Place in 1997. Lavada owned and operated Lavada's Snackbar in Davenport, Oklahoma, for many years. She then worked at the sewing factory in Chandler. Lavada was a long-time member of the Chandler First Baptist Church. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, quilting, fishing, camping out, gardening and flowers. Lavada loved serving others. She volunteered at the Chandler thrift store and the local food pantry. She was very giving to others and always made sure her family was in church. Lavada will be greatly missed. Her parents, husbands, one daughter, Tanya, two sisters, Sue Huffman and Phyllis Huff, and one brother, Glen Wakely preceded Lavada in death. Survivors include daughters, Norma Hightower of Davenport, Oklahoma; Lorraine Henry of Prague, Oklahoma, Mary Cook of Chandler, and one son, Delbert Place of Washington, Oklahoma; one brother Harold Wakely of Chandler; one sister, Patsy Ninness of Davenport; ten grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. A graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 29, 2017, in the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, Oklahoma, with Rev. Rick Blackwell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
