Larry Joe Stribling passed away peacefully at his home on October 26, 2023, in Chandler, Oklahoma at the age of 83. He was born on September 16, 1940, in Vinita, Oklahoma to Joe and Velma Stribling and was raised in Davenport, Oklahoma. Larry attended Central State College where he graduated with a degree in accounting in 1962.
Larry met his wife, Carolyn Melton in 1960 in Oklahoma City. They were married on November 23, 1961, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Together they raised four children, Jan, Debbie, Brenda, and Kelly.
Larry loved the Lord. He and his wife Carolyn attended Rhema Bible College in 1990 where he became an ordained Rhema Minister in 1992. Larry returned to his hometown of Davenport in 1990 where he pastored the First Christian Church for 11 years. In 2002, he and Carolyn planted and pastored Word of Life Family Church in Chandler.
Those who knew Larry, known as “PaPa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, knew his family was his pride and joy. He loved his family deeply. He and Carolyn raised their girls in Plano, Texas but loved spending time at their lake house in Texhoma. They continued the tradition by having “Family Reunions” every year from 1997-2017 at Lake Tenkiller. All the children, grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren looked forward to the annual trip to the lake where Larry would sit on the porch and just enjoy visiting with his family and of course the annual hot dog and marshmallow roast. For more than 30 years, the whole family cherished weekly burger nights where for many years “PaPa” was Captain of the Grill. He loved spending time with his family, every one of them, any time he could. His devotion to his family was unwavering.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love poured unconditionally and with abandon into each and every member of his family every single day of his life.
