L M Sullivan, age 92, of Edmond, OK, was born on June 11, 1924, in Crescent, OK. He was the son of Roy & Lillis (Prosser) Sullivan. He left this life on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in Midwest City, OK. L M graduated from Ringwood High School in 1942. He volunteered and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a tail gunner with the 490th Bomb Group, flying his first combat mission June 6, 1944, which was D-Day. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and many others including the French Order of Merit. While on a short leave, he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Rowley, on March 5, 1945, in Enid, OK. After serving his country, he received his Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern State College and his Master's Degree from Phillips University. He started teaching at Cleo Springs then became the high school principal and then the superintendent of schools. He served as superintendent at Kremlin, Boise City, Coyle, Newkirk and Harrah, all in Oklahoma. He taught one year at Langston University while writing his dissertation. He was awarded his Doctor of Education Degree from Oklahoma State University in 1968. He moved to Harrah and served as superintendent for nine years. L M retired from the State Department of Education in 1985, after spending a total of thirty-nine years in education. L M was a member of the Edmond First United Methodist Church and a former very active member of the Harrah United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Harrah Historical Society, the Oklahoma and Oklahoma County Retired Educators Association, the Oklahoma Anthropological Society, an avid OSU sports fan and member of the Associates of the College of Education and Life Members of the Alumni Association. L M was inducted into the College of Education Hall of Fame in June 2006. He was an avid reader and could recite poems and quotations from many sources. He enjoyed fishing for trout in Colorado, going to his 490th Bomb Group reunions, traveling, gardening, and playing with the great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Faye, Verna, Edith, Wanda, Roy Jr., Velda and Kenneth. Survivors include his wife, Peggy L. Sullivan, Midwest City, OK; 2 sons & daughter-in-law, Mick Sullivan, Ponca City, OK, Steve & Nancy Sullivan, Choctaw, OK; 3 grandchildren, David & Brandi Sullivan, Laura & Oliver Beckers, Blake Sullivan; 3 great-grandchildren, John Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Sylvia Beckers and many other relatives and a host of friends. Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, Edmond, OK. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Ringwood, OK, at 2:30 PM. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
