Keith L. Schroeder

Keith L. Schroeder, long-time Chandler, Oklahoma, resident was born on October 24, 1928, in Walters, Oklahoma, and departed this life on September 11, 2013, in Chandler, at the age of 84 years. Keith was the son of Walter and Bertha (Meyer) Schroeder and was baptized at the age of 7 in the United Methodist Church. His lasting memory of the first day of 1st grade at Putnam Heights School was etched into his mind when his teacher turned to the children and said, “Would you look at the boy (Keith) in the back row; he has managed to put his whole fist in his mouth.” Keith’s family moved to El Reno where his dad purchased a grain elevator. He graduated from El Reno High School and attended college at the University of Oklahoma where Keith met Colleen Curry on a blind date. On July 9, 1950, they were married in the First United Methodist Church in Chandler. The next 13 years were spent as Managing Editor of what is now the Lincoln County News. Keith's father-in-law, Dewey Curry, asked him to consider entering the funeral service business with him, which he did. Keith has been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since the 1964, having owned and operated Curry Funeral Home in Chandler for more than 20 years. He served on the Chandler Board of Education, and was a two term Mayor of Chandler, and served as president of the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Board of Directors of Lincoln County On-Stage, various committees in Chandler, was a member of the American Legion Post, the Masonic Lodge and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. His parents, one brother, Norman, one nephew, Barry, and his wife of over 55 years, Colleen, preceded Keith in death. Survivors include, his wife, JoAnn Keller Schroeder of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Brenda Schroeder of Chandler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Philip Morgan of Atlanta, Georgia and Laine and Mark Edwards of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Morgan of Madison, Wisconsin, Stephanie Morgan of Austin, Texas, Wesley and Nicoletta Schroeder of Bucharest, Romania, Scott and Miranda Schroeder of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brittany Schroeder of Boulder City, Colorado, Benjamin Schroeder of Chandler, Mason Carver of Chandler; and great grandson, Lucas Schroeder of Bucharest, Romania; nieces, Janet Schroeder Gilson of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Sondra Schroeder Jones and husband Earl Jones of Rancho Mirage, California and Sandra Schroeder of El Reno, Oklahoma, plus three special people, Derrell Sage, Jennifer Helms and Vicki Murcer Evans, all of Chandler, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler, Oklahoma with Reverend Hugh Willoby officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery. The Schroeder family will be receiving friends today at the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
