Katie Marie Newton

June 10, 1916 — November 17, 2005

Long-time Prague, OK, resident, Marie Newton, died peacefully at Norman Regional Hospital on November 17, 2005. Marie, was born on June 10, 1916, the youngest and last survivor of the children born to Robert Callaway and Sephroney Hopper Warden. Her parents moved from Missouri in 1904 and settled southwest of Paden where they began farming. Her father, R.C. Warden, was appointed County Road Commissioner in 1930, to help build roads and bridges and he received an award for outstanding service from Gov. ?Alfalfa? Bill Murray. Marie attended Paden High School where she met Roy Newton. They were married on October 12, 1933. Roy began a long career in the Oil Production Industry that took the family through Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, before they settled permanently in Prague in 1943. Marie and Roy were active in the community, especially the Eastern Star with both serving as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron at the same time. All five children were active in school and graduated from Prague High School. Marie was a member of the Prague United Methodist Church. Roy preceded Marie in death on October 14, 1995. In 1996, Marie moved to the University Village Retirement Community on the campus of Oral Roberts University. In July 2004, she moved to Grace Nursing Center in Norman. Her parents; one son, Gary Leroy Newton; seven brothers, Claude, Dan, Kin, Audley, Ennis, Denver, and Rollie; and one sister, Demah, also preceded Marie in death. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sharon Newton of Woodward; daughters and son-in-law, Florine Kunstel of Tulsa, Linda Burleson of Houston, TX, Royena and Joe Holladay of Chapel Hill, N.C.; favorite sister-in-law, Opal Warden of Prague; grandchildren, Donna Thompson and husband Richard of Tulsa, David Peterson of Denver, Andrea Burleson Lorenz of Casper, WY, Philip Burleson and wife Julie of Norman, Chris Burleson and wife Jo of Petaluma, CA, April Burleson of Houston, Heather Holladay Vigil and husband David of Sydney, Australia, Matthew Holladay of Chapel Hill, NC, Jennifer and Brian Newton of Woodward; great-grandchildren, Noelani, Kanani, Philip, and Nathan Burleson of Petaluma, CA, Aaron Heeschen of Casper, WY, Lindsay and Seth Burleson of Norman, Arielle Judd of Tulsa, Devon and Hayden Peterson of Denver, CO.
