Shelnutt, Julia (Nee Tytenicz) - Born June 10, 1918 in Harrah, Oklahoma as Julia Tytenicz. Went to be with the Lord peacefully on December 3, 2010 in Sacramento, California at the age of 92 with family at her side. She is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years Thaddeus Shelnutt, her daughter Judy Spencer (Curtis), two grandchildren, Michael Spencer and Melanie Smedley (Scott), two great-grandchildren (Drew and Lydia Smedley) two sisters – Jo Machula (Walter) and Mary Fortelney, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 10 siblings and her former husband Sidney Klein. She grew up in Oklahoma, worked on the family farm in her youth, moved to southern California around 1940 and worked in aircraft assembly work at Northrop and Douglas. In 1976, she moved to Carmichael in northern California, and later that year married Thaddeus Shelnutt. Julia will be remembered as a committed Christian and for her youthful spirit and generosity. She helped many family members through difficult times. She was also an accomplished artist and made the world’s best applesauce. Visitation hours will be Friday, December 10 from 4-7 pm at Smith-Parks Funeral Home, 2039 N. Tim Holt Drive, Harrah, OK. Services will be held at that location at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 11, followed by a graveside service at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery and a reception at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Remembrances may be made in Julia’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 530 Bercut Drive, Suite A, Sacramento, CA 95811. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
